What Led Me to Become a HeartMath Personal Resilience Practitioner
People often ask what led me to become a HeartMath Personal Resilience Practitioner.
The answer is both simple and layered. It emerged from a combination of life experience, curiosity, and fortunate timing.
At its core, this work is about learning to live with clarity, strength, and coherence regardless of what life brings.
Several years ago HeartMath was briefly mentioned in a book I happened to be reading. That small reference sparked a deep curiosity in me.
It caused me to recognize something important. I had been largely unaware of the complex physiological processes unfolding within my own body. That lack of awareness often left me feeling disoriented, reactive, and internally chaotic.
I decided to explore HeartMath more deeply. That decision began a meaningful journey into understanding my own physiology and learning techniques that could bring my internal systems into greater coherence and regulation.
Over time I began to notice something that I now observe in many others as well.
Many people fall short of their potential not because they lack intelligence, character, or determination, but because they have never been taught how to regulate the instinctive responses of fight, flight, or freeze. These automatic reactions shape countless decisions and interactions in daily life.
Wherever someone may be struggling, whether at work, within their family, or in another area of life, the pattern is often similar. Without a deliberate commitment to cultivating a healthy internal landscape, life can easily become a cycle of reactivity, fatigue, and decisions that do not reflect our deeper intentions.
This realization eventually led to the creation of Personal Power Assistant.
I began to ask myself a simple question.
What if people could engage a kind of personal assistant whose purpose was not to manage a calendar or organize a schedule, but to help them develop and sustain a vibrant and coherent inner life?
What if that assistant possessed practical training that could help individuals reconnect with their aspirations and move forward with clarity and resilience?
That question continues to guide my work today.
Like many people, my life has included formidable challenges as well as meaningful victories. I have confronted difficult circumstances, pursued long held dreams, and relied at times on the guidance of dedicated professionals and supportive communities.
These experiences helped build a resilience that I value deeply.
Even so, there were many periods when I found myself wrestling with fear, frustration, anger, confusion, and sadness more often than I wished.
One of the most meaningful benefits of learning HeartMath techniques has been discovering that situations which once created inner chaos no longer hold the same power.
Today I am able to pause, apply a technique, and return to a state of coherence.
HeartMath has not removed the stressors of life. What it has given me is something far more valuable. It has strengthened my ability to meet those stressors with steadiness and intention.
As a trainer I take my role seriously. My goal is not to provide temporary comfort but to help people cultivate genuine self care.
True self care requires courage. It asks us to meet ourselves honestly, to recognize the patterns that drain our energy, and to develop practices that strengthen clarity, resilience, and emotional coherence.
One of the greatest compliments I have received came from my dear friend Elizabeth. She once said that I am willing to offer encouragement, remain silent, challenge someone directly, or share humor whenever it helps a person continue moving toward their goal.
That sentiment reflects the commitment I bring to this work.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri and a Master of Science degree from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri.
My professional career has focused on breaking down systems and then rebuilding them into responsible organizations that support quality, efficiency, and effectiveness. I bring that same practical orientation to my HeartMath work so that every session is purposeful, grounded, and applicable to real life.
In my free time I am a voracious reader, love to travel and otherwise truly enjoy down time and adventures with my partner Bill. We are focused on volunteerism in our community, and ensuring the well-being of our horses. And, of course, the happiness of Romeo the famous donkey is prioritized at all times.
